Pupils' views of music

Our Curriculum Implementation

Our Music curriculum takes a holistic approach to music in which performing, listening, composing, the history of music and the inter-related dimensions of music are woven together. In each Music lesson, pupils will actively engage in musical activities drawn from a range of styles and traditions, developing their musical skills and their understanding of how music works. Lessons incorporate a range of teaching strategies from independent tasks to paired and group work as well as improvisation and teacher-led performances.

Children participate in one music lesson a week using the 'Kapow' scheme of work. In Year 4, children are given the opportunity to participate in a whole-class instrumental programme lasting a for a term. Children who wish to continue after the initial term are invited to an after-school club.

To raise the profile of music in school, children’s musical achievements are shared in whole school assemblies; children are given the opportunity to take part in after school clubs, including a choir that takes part in performances in the local community.
