Reading Champions
At Wednesbury Oak, to encourage and promote our love of reading, we celebrate reading in school and at home with two weekly Reading awards.
We have our Reading Champion: A child, who is selected by their class teacher as someone who has worked exceptionally hard with their reading that week. This might be someone who has endeavored to read at home each night; someone who has shown confidence when reading aloud in reading lessons; someone who has moved up a book band level; someone with great enthusiasm for reading. The reading possibilities are endless!
Any child who is awarded this twice in a year is further rewarded by being able to choose a book from our school book vending machine.
We also have our Class Reading Champions. This is awarded to the class who have completed the most reading at home each week. This is awarded through use of the child's reading diary. The more reading logs that are made, the more points the class achieve towards winning the Class Reading Champions trophy.
All reading awards are celebrated in the Headteacher’s assembly each week.
