Through our teaching of writing, we aim to develop children’s ability to produce well-structured, detailed pieces, which engage the interest of the audience / reader and have a clear purpose. Particular attention is paid throughout the school to the formal structures of English: grammatical detail, punctuation and spelling. Our approach when teaching writing covers the transcription and composition requirements of the National Curriculum.
Throughout Early Years and Key Stage 1 we follow Talk for Writing, whereby children are exposed to a key text, which they learn together orally and with actions. Other year groups, follow a book-led curriculum, where writing opportunities are sourced and developed based around a class text within each year group. Our curriculum allows children to have the opportunity to explore texts in depth, enhancing their understanding and providing meaningful contexts and purposes for writing.
