Love of Reading
Our love of reading is celebrated across school in many different ways.
Take a look at just some of the things we do in school to encourage and promote our love of reading.
World Book Day Celebrations
Author Visits
In 2021 were visited by Simon Hunt.
We were visited by a story-teller, who re-told us Roald Dahl's famous BFG story, in celebration of Roald Dahl day on September 13th.
Book Quiz
We have taken part in the Tipton Town Book Quiz, which is run by our local libraries. We enter two teams, who are made up of children from years 4 and 5. By the library, the children are given a small selection of books to read and study: they really need to know these books, their characters and the plot inside out!
Children then compete against teams from other local schools, testing their book knowledge and overall love of reading.
We are extremely proud that Wednesbury Oak were crowned the Tipton Town Book Quiz Winners of 2018 and 2019!
Spotlight Author
We want to immerse children with inspirational authors.
Our English journey allows children to study texts from a variety of authors, including Cressida Cowell, Maurice Sandak, Anne Fine, Phil Earle and David Almond, to name just a few. As well as this, our ‘Author Spotlight’ aims to introduce children to a range of authors, providing them with information about the author themselves, as well as books they have written. Each half-term, a different author is focused on and displayed in our main library area.
Our spotlight author for Autumn 1 was Roald Dahl. You can continue to discover more about Roald Dahl and his well-known books here: https://www.roalddahl.com/
